Hiding Gmail folders in Mail.app

For the past year or so I have been using a Gmail account for the convenience of IMAP access and online backup. The irritation when using Gmail through Leopard’s Mail.app was the extra folders that show up such as All Mail and the extra unused Trash, Drafts etc. A very usefull tip turned up on Mac OS X Hints a few days ago, explaining how to enable Gmail’s Advanced IMAP controls to select which folders are displayed for remote IMAP access. Following the advice I have now removed the unwanted folders making Mail a lot tidier and the world a happier place.
