PwnageTool 2.1 and QuickPwn 1.1 for Mac released

Both of the iPhone and iPod Touch jailbreaking apps have been updated this afternoon, and are available for now only as bittorrent downloads (until demand subsides) from the iPhone Dev Team site. Which app you use depends on how you want to jailbreak your device. PwnageTool will create a new restore IPSW file that iTunes can use, and QuickPwn will jailbreak a device without using iTunes. I had previously updated to firmware 2.1 on my iPod Touch so QuickPwn was the best choice.

The process was as simple and fast as before, and was completed in around five minutes. Despite the previous comments from the iPhone Dev Team about having to patch iTunes they have found a way around this so there’s nothing more taxing required than running the app. Cydia and Installer are both added to the device, and this time around there’s an option to change the boot logo or keep it standard. Once the Mac application has finished the jailbreak continues on the iPhone or iPod with a nice progress display to show you what’s being done.

There’s not a lot more I can say about this release, it works just as well as previous versions, looks great and finishes with a picture of a cute kitteh. What more could you ask for. Screen shots? Here you go.

Unfortunately the iPod Touch 2G isn’t supported yet. As the iPhone Dev Team blog says, they don’t have access to the device yet so can’t test their software on it. It doesn’t usually take long for a new device to be included so keep checking for an update.
