Korg Nano series

I had a chance to play with these at the London International Music Show yesterday, and they look like a useful tool for the performing or writing musician.

Comprising a two octave mini keyboard, a bank of trigger pads and a mini mixer they connect via USB. No word yet on UK pricing.

UPDATE The Korg UK site has a page for these with a lot of info but no release date, stating only ‘COMING LATER IN 2008′

UPDATE DV247 is listing these as due October 2008 with a price of £59 for Nanopad and Nanokontrol, and £49 for Nanokey

EFiX usb dongle

June 15, 2008 1 comment

Latest development in the OSX86 world is the EFiX usb dongle to allow any compatible PC to boot a genuine unpatched OSX install disk. Netkas has a video on his site of the sample he received which gives this some credibility, but trying to access anything other than the home page at results in a 404 page not found error.

There’s no more information available, so how much post install patching for harware compatibility will be required is not clear. The device is due for release on the 23rd of June so more details should be revealed soon.

Istat menus updated to 1.3

June 15, 2008 Leave a comment

The rather excellent iStat menus by iSlayer was recently updated to version 1.3, and it’s well worth a try if you haven’t already got it running. It’s a menubar information display that shows a range of details including CPU, memory, drives, network, temperatures, bluetooth and date/time.

The screenshot above (from the iSlayer product page) gives you a good idea of what to expect. There’s some nice improvements in the new version, and the top five processes for CPU and memory utilisation are now displaying correctly on my Macbook and hackintosh. The only issue I have is that the temperature and fans/power displays don’t work on my hackintosh, but that’s to be expected since its not official Apple hardware.

Not only is this an excellent and useful piece of software, it’s also freeware, so there’s no excuse to to try it.
