iJailbreak 0.6

1.1.4 jailbrokeniJailbreak 0.6 has been out for a few days and I finally got time to upgrade my 16Gb iPod Touch to 1.1.4. The recommended method is using an un-jailbroken 1.1.4 device, so I upgraded through iTunes before starting. The process ran smoothly and resulted in a jailbroken 1.1.4 with installer.app added. The only problem I have found so far has been Mail.app crashing at launch, but that was easily fixed with a quick search that found the page here. Changing the permissions on var/mobile/Library/Mail from 755 to 777 sorted that problem. Nothing very different after upgrading, but it’s always good to get the bug fixes, right?

FCC redefines broadband

March 21, 2008 1 comment

The American Federal Communications Commission is in the process of redefining what it considers to be ‘broadband’ speeds, to aid tracking the availability of internet access across the USA. Data rates are to be divide into five categories:

  1. 200Kbps to 768Kbps – first generation data
  2. 768Kbps to 1.5Mbps – basic broadband
  3. 1.5Mbps to 3Mbps
  4. 3Mbps to 6Mbps
  5. 6Mbps and above

The first of these categories is the interesting one, as anything under 768Kbps will no longer be classed as broadband. Would this mean someone paying for a 2Mbit ADSL connection but getting less than 768Kbit would not be getting what they paid for? I can only hope we get some similar classification in the UK, even if current 50Mbit trials would make the categories already redundant.
