Impressive new tech

There’s some amazing new developments in the software world at the moment, here are three of the ones that impressed me most.

BumptopBumptop is a 3D desktop where your files have a weight and solidity that makes them stackable and throwable. Watch the video for a demo. This is in private alpha at the moment, but you can sign up to be notified when a public release is available.

Head Tracking using a wii controller makes it possible to get a 3D view into a 2D display. Watch the video here, home page is here but is down at the moment.

Photosynth is a windows only app that ‘takes a large collection of photos of a place or an object, analyzes them for similarities, and then displays the photos in a reconstructed three-dimensional space, showing you how each one relates to the next.’ You have to see it working to see how impressive it is. This really shows how good Microsoft’s engineers are. Pity the company seems to be run by the marketing department.
